Okay...  This commercial brings up a few questions...

First, what does jogging have to do with Commodore computers?

Second, how is that guy powering the SX-64 next to a swimming pool?

And lastly, is the "one-fingered salute" an Aussie thing?

First, what does jogging have to do with Commodore computers?

Obviously, when you carry that 25-pound weight during a jog, you burn more calories!  What a work-out!

Second, how is that guy powering the SX-64 next to a swimming pool?

Long extension cable to an outdoor outlet?  Using a AC converter hooked to an automobile?  Running it off of Lenard Roach's GABE.4.U. batteries? 

And lastly, is the "one-fingered salute" an Aussie thing?

In the t.v. show, "Home Improvement", Tim and Al used the two-fingered salute.

No - I guess it's an allusion to saluting a Commodore.....

Hehehe...  That's actually the first thing I thought of!  Too bad he hadn't invented it yet when this commercial aired.

Yes, I've seen that...  I always figured it came from the traditional Cub Scout salute.  But I've never seen a salute with only one finger, and everyone in this commercial is doing it...  I guess saluting styles interest me since I'm in the navy.

I've got my 'puter set to not play Flash videos until I click on them, so when I first skimmed this conversation and saw references to one- and two-fingered salutes, my first thought was that you meant the two ways of saying "f--- you" by means of a vigorous hand motion. (Middle finger held up, or — in Britain at least — middle and index fingers held up in a V, both types with the back of the hand facing the object of scorn and the extended finger or fingers pointing up.) Heh.

Old war movies often show a casual two-fingered salute in the sense you actually did mean, so I don't know as it would have come from the Cubs. Might be an old-school aviator thing.

Whatever the case... The two-fingered salute used on the Home Improvement TV show is not what I'm talking about...  It's the one-fingered salute that's used on the SX-64 TV commercial that I'm questioning (and no, I'm not talking about the "middle finger salute"... hehehehe).

Does anyone in New South Wales know who now resides at 5 Orion Road in Lane Cove?  It might be funny to send in that request for more information on the Commodore Executive 64.

According to the photos from Google Earth, there are a lot of big buildings and parking lots there now.

Oh wow... Last time I looked up info on Google's "street view", it was only in U.S. cities.  Looks like they have it in Australia now, too, because you can bring up a street level view of that address on Google Maps!  Check it out!  The sign on the building says "Medtel".  I did some searching, and found out that 5 Orion Road in Lane Cove, NSW, is indeed now the head office of Medtel Australia.  According to their website, they are "Australasia's foremost supplier of high technology products to the medical industry".  Hmmm...  I wonder if they use any Commodore spare parts in their products!

Last time I looked (about 3 years ago) there was still a Commodore sign up on one side of the building

Aparrently, they have more free time since using the SX64 to handle all their personal finance. If he had a PC, he would still be trying to configure ISA slots!
