Cheapest shipping i've found is $45.50 USPS Priority International - I guess at this weight I can't do first class anymore (just over 4 lbs).  so the disks would be $80 and then the shipping.  I get charged 3.9% for Payal (unless it's gifted but then you have no recourse should I turn out to be a tool).

EDIT:  Looks like I could split it into two boxes and save $5.

I could use a card-edge to IEEE and an IEEE-IEEE cable actually!

Great news!  Was it a 27256 or a 27512 that you needed?  I can't remember the size of the BASIC ROM.

Hey all,

I have newly manufactured DSDD diskettes available for sale. They come with sleeves. I ordered these in bulk and as such they have no boxes or stickers.

$0.80 each, PM if interested.

S&H will be actual cost.

For the record, I "make" about 5 cents a disk off of these basically to offset my financing the inventory. I have 900 of these in stock. I had to place the minimum order of 1000 to get them produced as my last lot of 50 "new old stock" disks were starting to fail formatting, etc.

SX64 / Re: SX64 mods

I used a Coby 5.6" LCD TV. The composite input was used. I bought it off Ebay for $20.00 a couple years ago, and now we have digital tv, I decided to put it in the SX64.

How was the video quality.  I have two Audiovox units I got for 26 and wired in.  Problem is it have some sever "horizontal line" issues.  I've tried it with both and it's the same.  It's a shame because it fits nicely, but I just can't make the leap as the CRT's picture is far superior. (I imagine it always will be).  The problem with the lines is it messes up the text.

I've not been able to find any with SVideo input too which sucks - I had to use composite.

Yes, I had same problem cause I bought a 1581 without drive from canada.

I couldn't find any drive fit in my 1581.
Someone told me take a amiga drive. Amiga drive doesn't fit.
Someone told me no HD drive.
Someone told me you must change some things in the drive electronics (don't want to change this).

Finally someonetold me to make a "special/modified" ribbon cable ...

And this was it!! I have 7 drives here, HD and normal density, different companies (Teac, Sony, Amiga drive), all of my 7 drives work properly in my 1581!!

Solution:  click
Picture:  click

So do you have pics of exactly what you did, those links have two options and I'm not sure which to do.  I have to dead 81's (good boards) that need a new mech!

The only way I've gotten it to work is to run a Windows Virtual Machine and then use WARPCOPY via the C64NET adapter.

Or I could drop $15 and buy a brand new one from ebay.  My only concern is/was it supplies 5V @ 2A.  Not 2.2A.  But I think it will suffice.  Even if I modified an A500 PS - I am still modifying an aging power supply.  The AT PS is something I may do at some point.  Not just for the hard drive, but to run several pieces of equipment from a single power source.

It should be enough.  I ran mine 100% stable for a year on a 1581 PSU.  However, I replace the HDD with a solid state unit, so that reduced the power needed.  You'll just need to find a drive with a max draw of 10W to keep it at 2 AMP.

Wow.  The impression I got from your post was that the Rear Admiral was for existing Lt. Kernal units.  I had no idea this would translate into ACTUAL Lt. Kernal II units being sold.

http://cgi.ebay.com/XETEC-LT-KERNAL-II-160MB-HARD-DRIVE-COMMODORE-128-NEW-/300486908771?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f66a5b63

Thinking about brand new Commodore hard drive systems being sold in 2010 makes me smile.  I hope he sells lots of units.

Nice... I remember the extreme negativity and skepticism when word of the Rear Admiral first came out. It is nice to see that indeed an actual product followed. I'm doubtful I'll ever get one as it seems to not be compatible with the SuperCPU 128. Still, nice to see new product on the market.

I'm not sure this is true.  I do know of a Centipede BBS run by DEADMAN, which I know is running an RA unit, and I believe is using a SCPU128.

On every one I've worked with, positive goes to the smaller connector (which you can't see in your photo) and negative goes to the larger one with those "legs" to crimp over the cable.  Just solder them up and use a multimeter to make sure whichever wire is connected to the tip (the part past the black ring on the end) is what you hook up to the +6V side of the battery.

Thanks for the insight BDD.  I had kinda figured out that the "USER" designation was simply an attribute for the file.  I arrived at that assumption based on how quickly MOVES occurred.  However, to be honest, I didn't take into consideration that they're not actually separate directories.

That all said, I'm still quite enjoying exploring the possibilities of multi-use.  To be honest that's the only reason i've really pursued the RA equipment (well not counting of course that it's new and thus I'm less likely to fall prey to failure of 25 year old components).  I mean all said, the RA unit's have cost more than the vintage xetec equipment I have.  However, I like supporting folks in the retro-dev-world, and the owner of MyTec has been a very valuable and personable resource!

I should clarify that I'm not running a multi-line BBS, but rather multiple BBS' off of a single HD unit.  They're separated by LU / USER designation.

Thank for the contact info.  I thought I'd update the thread.  I've been in contact with Jeff from MyTec for several weeks.  THe end result is that I got an upgrade for an existing LtK HA and enclosure, as well as a new host adapter/enclosure (to hook up an "newer old school" ZIP100 for backups) and a MUX.  The main reason for upgrading one of my two Xetec units was the excitement of playing with a MUX.  Long story short, the RA works exactly like the old LtK's.  There are many improvements, but to be honest, I've not had time to explore those as well.  However, as of this writing I've got two machines via a MUX sharing the same LtK.  THe quick win here is that I can now run multiple BBS' on one HDD.  In addition I'm working on a "project" for an ML-based "Remote Desktop" app.  The hope is to get this to run on a 128, eventually via the embedded "extra ROM" socket.  What I'm looking for eventually is a 100% test-based access to the machine via an RR Net.  This would allow me to remote it and edit BBS system files, (for other systems via MUX) live.

Great product, and excellent support from Jeff.  Oh, I also got one of his MMU adapters to take a legacy Xetec 64 unit and get it running on a 128.  Great stuff there too!

FD-2000 Results:  702        684

I got the same results as everyone else on the 1571, 81, RL, and HDD.  Just an FYI that the uIEC comes back as 48     48

Is this actually available as the only reference I can find anywhere is your post.  I have two LtK's and would be like to see what this swap has to offer!

Can not correctly polarity damage my RAMLink?

Thank you.

Miro

As with most DC circuits, yes.  Sometimes you're lucky and there's a diode present to keep you from pushing current the wrong way and blowing itself up if you overpower it so you just replace the diode and that's it.

Now on to another thing, I have two of these lovely creatures, neither of them with a RTC.  I'm curious if anyone has one they can snap some pics of top and bottom as I'd like to see if it can be recreated.

I'd love to learn about the ultimate resolution to this problem as the same behavior happened to my my 64C running Color64 7.37.  After a lightening strike, I took it yo a commie shop back in the day and they replaced the board and moved all of this chips,  Viola, it now powered up but it couldn't keep time.  They swapped a few other chips and gave up...  I washed it as a game only 64 at that point an officially moved to 8088 (after dumping $500 for a CMD40, and over $200 to repair my 64.

Yeah, I think I paid around $500ish for my first one.  Man that thing was a dream though...  Especially because it had a built in monitor stand! :)

Interesting, So I wired up four connectors on a breadboard and it does indeed seem that all you need to do is drop the ATN line and the device goes away...  I'm gonna play with getting a PCB together that could have a number of IEC sockets with a single switch per socket to drop the ATN.  It would be like a 1 to 4 type setup, as the lines need to be run in parallel to keep from dropping off a while segment.  Fun, simple little project....  Step 2 would be to use MiniDIN... then just a simple adapter makes for a much smaller unit, or even MiniDIN to DIN cables?

Ugh!  I don't even want to think about what I've paid for my 2 DCRs over the years.... Well not counting the brand new on in 1990 of course.
