GO64 / 64 mode and VDC
June 07, 2006, 02:05 PM
Is it possible to access the VDC from 64 mode? I read somewhere that from 64 mode, you can go into a quasi-fast mode (2 mhz) but only under certain circumstances. Made me wonder what else 64 mode can access, such as the VDC.

News, views, help & info / Site locale

Hey admin,

Awesome thing you are doing, but Im wondering about your domain.  Since its a no-ip.com domain, Im guessing you are hosting locally?  Speed is a little iffy at times.  Free is free, so no complaints, but if you need help getting hosted, let us know - Im sure alot of folks here know reasonable hosting plans and would even be willing to contribute to help get things going. Let us know how we can help.

My opinion, C-Net was THE best BBS for the 64 and 128. Good to see it survives today.

This page is a pretty good resource.  Contains the system guide, the BASIC guide, CPM files and more.

Herdware / Z80

Even though the Z80 is there primarily for CPM, I wonder sometimes what else can be run using that processor. Anyone know if it is capable of running homebrew or other OSes?  I think the Z80 was WAY overlooked by the Commodore community, and most people saw it as Z80 = CPM.

Ive completed the userport --> PC serial port connector, which when using Brain's tcpservj program, allows you to connect to telnet BBSs and QLink.  (Basically it acts as a hayes compat modem).  Once I get my setup back up and running (Ive moved rooms and I needed to temporarily take down the 128), Im hoping to write a windows service in C# that will do what tcpservj does.  Then, Id like to start hacking at the 128, writing simple web browsers (text only of course), an irc client, etc. This will be an interesting project, even though it relies on the PC for internet connectivity.  Slow as christmas Im sure, but it will be fun. I quite miss the simplicity of coding on the 128.  Is this something anyone else might be interested in?

General chat / Poll: commodore computers
June 05, 2006, 04:13 PM
Lol... I thought I saw a bar at the VIC-20, but it was still at 0%.

I wouldnt mind messing with the VIC if it werent for that god-awful 20x20 screen (or whatever it is). Did they ever make an adaptor (software or hardware) to allow at least 40 columns?

I used to have a 128D - loved it.  Sold it somewhere along the way, and I do regret it.  Right now Im back with a regular 128. Would have been nice if Commodore thought ahead with the internal 1571 and just made it a swappable bay instead that would house either a 1571 or a 1581.

I'm quite liking the 128D actually, it takes up a lot less space than my old C64/1570/64HDD setup, it'll take even less soon once I've done away with the compaq breezeblock currently running it (SLT 386 if you remember those)

Curiously, I never used a C128 in the 80s, although I had a couple of C64s, no disk drive though, £300 at the time for a 1541!

I've seen a few intros that identify that it's a PAL C128, I'd be interested to know how that's done given that I was in C64 mode at the time!

Can we get an upload/download area going? Ive been trying to build a 128-only collection of software, and this would be a great place to share.

Intro... Xlar54 here from Tennessee. Glad to see the 128 finally warrants its own forum! Id like to help out in getting this going, as Ive spent quite a bit of time in locating and collecting 128 software.
