Quote from: nikonikoIt's been a while since I've auctioned anything, but starting everything at a penny I always ended up with more than I expected at the end. A seller like this might as well do a Buy It Now if they're not willing to let the auction process play out.
I couldn't agree with you more!  Actually, I start my auctions at 99¢ if I put it in one category, or $1.99 if I put it in two catagories.  That way, if it only gets one bid, at least I'm getting the money that eBay charges me for posting the auction in the first place.  But yeah, starting an auction at an excessively high price is just plain rediculous.

General chat / Cottonwood BBS -- Now on TELNET!

Yesterday, I had Cottonwood BBS down for a few hours while I upgraded the configuration.  I swapped out the C128 for a C128DCR, and I added a second CMD hard drive.  This way, I was able to add a new HUGE directory for downloads, which I'm using for C64/128 Utilities/Applications/Telecommunications.  I've also added directories for VIC-20 and PET software.  In addition, I also swapped out the HP Laptop that BBS Server was running on for a mini-Gateway desktop PC.  This frees up my laptop for other uses, and it also seems to have improved the reliability of the Telnet connection.  There's a new, updated photo of the entire setup at the Cottonwood BBS website.

Quote from: hydrophilicSweet!

I didn't realize their European facilities were used for producing American units.  Always assumed the PCs were from US and the drives from Asia.
Yeah, I always assumed the same thing...  This one is the only one I've ever seen that's made in West Germany.  The other one I have, which is now running Cottonwood BBS, is made in Taiwan.

I also discovered that this 128DCR that I'm selling has 64K Video RAM (do all 128D's have it?).  Just about the only thing it doesn't[/b] have is JiffyDOS...  But that can be added easily enough...  :-)

I should probably mention that I've got some other Commodore items up for auction on eBay as well, so be sure to check out those, too!  ;)

Hydrophilic,
I'm not sure why you were unable to stay connected.  That's the first time I've heard of anyone losing their connection...  But Nikoniko is right, the best terminal program to use is CGTERM, which you can download here: http://www.paradroid.net/cgterm/.

Just so you know...  When I've called using Hyperterminal to test out ASCII mode, I use the default settings.

One more thing I forgot to mention...  It seems that it's also
necessary to tap return (or enter) upon connection, otherwise the BBS
will sometimes detect the incorrect baud rate and begin transmitting
at 1200 baud when it should be transmitting at 2400.  This causes a
bunch of garbage to come across instead of the initial welcome
message.  If this does happen, however, don't worry.  Just disconnect,
wait a minute or so, and call back.  Then, when you connect, just tap
return (or enter) once or twice, and you should see the "2400 baud
user detected" message.

General chat / Cottonwood BBS -- Now on TELNET!

Well... I've gone and done it...

Cottonwood BBS is now accessable via Telnet!  Operating on All American BBS 128 v12.1b!

The telnet address is cottonwood.servebbs.com (port 23).

A few tips:
When calling for the first time as a new user, call with an ASCII terminal (Hyperterminal or equivalent from a Windows computer, or ASCII mode from a terminal program on a Commodore computer).  This is because AA BBS switches to ASCII mode during the application process.  If you call in with CGTERM, all the charachters will be reversed at that point.  Once you've set up your account, you can call with a Commodore graphics terminal program on all subsequent calls.  Also, during the application, you're asked for your phone number, which is in U.S./Canada phone number format (###-###-####).  This is used as a sort of backup ID# in AA BBS.  I don't care what number you use, but it needs to be a number that you'll be able to remember in the event that you forget your assigned ID#.  And finally, if you'd like to be informed when your account has been validated, send me a feedback message on the BBS with your e-mail address and I'll notify you that way.  Otherwise, all accounts are normally validated within 24 hours (everyone gets the same full access upon validation), so you can just call back and enjoy your access.

Any questions?  Feel free to e-mail me at wiskow@verizon.net!

Links / Commodore 64/128 Bulletin Board List
March 27, 2007, 12:51 AM
I would like to formally announce the "resurrection" of the C64/128 Bulletin Board List. This list had been released monthly years ago, but it has not been updated since October 2003. I've decided to take it upon myself to bring this list back to life. I'm keeping the same basic format as the old list, but I'm including all known dial-up AND Telnet boards (the old list was for dial-up only). Anyway... I hope some of you will find this useful...  :-)

The ASCII text version of the list can be found here:
http://hometown.aol.com/cottonwoodbbs/cbm-bbs-list.txt

The PETSCII text version of the list can be found here:
http://hometown.aol.com/cottonwoodbbs/cbm-bbs-list.seq

Credit goes to Golan Klinger for compiling the TelBBS List, from which I aquired the BBS names and Telnet addresses used in this list.

Thanks also to all the SysOps who provided additional information used in this list.

This website shows the pinout for the C64 video port:
http://pinouts.ru/Multimedia/AudioVideoC64_pinout.shtml

You could do like has already been suggested, and combine the C64 audio and Currah audio at the monitor with a Y-cable...  OR, you could make your own monitor cable, with a female connector attached to pin 5, which is audio in.  Then connect the Currah audio to that.

Auctions et al / C128 & Promenade C1!
March 22, 2007, 08:07 AM
I just saw this on eBay... Someone is selling a lot entitled COMMODORE 128 COMPUTER AND MANY EXTRAS, and hidden amongst these "many extras" is a Promenade C1 EPROM burner.  The last few Promenade C1's I've seen sell on eBay have sold for around $300, so this is a chance for someone to get one for much cheaper, plus get a lot of other hardware along with it.  :)

Auctions et al / SuperCPU 128 for US $2,250

Here's something interesting I came across...  It's the CMD price list from January 2001.  Probably the final price list before they sold out to Maurice Randall...
http://www.headgap.com/Library/CMD/cmdprice0101.txt

In this list, you can see that a NEW SuperCPU w/ 16MB RAM sold for US$418.

Oh, and I guess I should mention that Maurice Randall sells the same thing for $379.  Not that you'll ever get one from him...  :/

Actually, this was listed as "Buy It Now" for $1,050.  And someone did buy it.  I could never imagine paying over a thousand dollars for a 3.5" floppy drive!  Even if it uses ED disks...  It's still just a floppy drive!!!  :förvånad:

I wouldn't say that 1581's are QUITE common in the U.S.  But based on the bidding on your 1581 so far, I'd definately say they're MORE common in the U.S. than they are in Australia.  In my observations of eBay auctions in the past few months, I've seen 1581's in the U.S. sell for around US$80 - 100.

Maybe "no info" referrs to places that use multiple formats...  I imagine that in Antarctica, each country's station uses it's own format...  And Western Sahara may be a mix of PAL and SECAM.

Apparently, "the word" got out to this guy...  He's removed the
reference to a battery in the item description:

Here's an auction for a Commodore that *does* use a battery:
