LOL in a weird way, that commercial remind me of a Zellers commercial (sorta like K-Mart stores)...where you'd see a zellers dude look left and right at competitors prices and that's the pricing strategy, look at the rest, price lower, and you sell...;-)..hehe

Man, those were the days :-)

I find it Original to use this a sa metaphore for the memoray capabilities of the 64.  though I might have used a different perspective from the same thing ;-).

128 programmers / BASIC 8 on the VICE emulator.
September 30, 2006, 11:40 PM
Has anyone got this work on the VICE emulator (or any emulator so far for that matter)....

If so, I'd like to know which emulator and how.

I've tried with vice only so far, and well, there's unpredictable things happening....unstable, I boot with the disks in and it doesn't pick it up, or it does pick it up, gives me the main basic 8 menu, but seems to stall after...sometimes will go further some, had to predict because it doesn't work or it will, to some point, and it doesn't seem to depend on anything that I can think of.

anyone else got this problem?  if so, did you fix it?  if so, how? ;-).

Thank you

VICE / VICE 1.20 released
September 30, 2006, 11:36 PM
I suspect there will be a 1.21 release probably soon, I just (2 days ago) sent a bug report to the VICE team.

I'm on Windows XP maybe people with other versions of windows can give it a try.  But here's what I did (and I did that test with different types of emulated drives too).

1. Open the emulator, write a few lines of BASIC code.  DSAVE that to an empty disk image (1541 seems to work, but for soem reason , not all the time).  so far, should work fine.  now, do a NEW to clear your memory, DLOAD your program from the disk image once again, it loads fine...now, add a few lines of code again.  And DSAVE again using the same file name to overwrite the old version.  do a NEW, DLOAD the "new" version back in memory, and you'll notice you have the old version of the file, before you added your lines of code. problem overwriting...I believe saving under a new name won't cause a problem, but I haven't tried that yet.  Anyway, bug is sent and I got confirmation that it's being worked on.  :-).

Anyone happen to know some of the specifics of why FAST mode doesn't work?  I mean, basically, what's keeping them from implementing it?  is there some wizard's special secret that's missing here?  Just curious. :-).

General chat / ... and operating system stats.....
September 30, 2006, 11:30 PM
lol...well that's what I call accurate statistics if you can pin point it to one specific machine in one specific place on the globe ;-).

me, I'm part of the whopping majority, windows XP ;-).

GEOS / Any freely available GEOS software?
September 30, 2006, 11:29 PM
Basically, I know GEOS is still licenced, etc etc...I'm wondering about software for it though.  For example, GeoCalc (spreadsheet program) and others that were made for GEOS 64 and GEOS 128.

If there's anything available, anyone happen to know where I could get them?

Also, aside geobasic, becker basic, and geoAssembler (geo Developer)...is there any other programming languages available for GEOS like perhaps a C or a Pascal maybe that make use fo the GEOS environement?

Again, if there's anything (freely available) where could I find out about them, and possibly get them?

Thanks all.

September 30, 2006, 10:57 AM
well I tried that just now, I save it to my winvice folder.  then for some reason, it's not showing...like prg files can't be downloaded.

hmmmm...

Thanks for the quick answer though ;-).

Are the results in?  Where can I read / see / hear the submissions, if any?

Coding competitions / Sound coding competition entry

Would it be possible to make a .dXX file out of that, so I can play with i on my emulator?

or show me how to put that .prg file to run on my emulator, if there's a way?

Speaking of, I can't seem to be able to download it, could you send it to me, or validate the link, or make a .dXX file for me?

Thank you.

Oh...Btw, I send you an email through here (whichever email this forum connects to) about some 128 you tube videos...just letting you know case you dont' check this particular email that often ;-)

Community Projects / People needed.
September 30, 2006, 02:44 AM
What's the status on this project?

If there's still things I can do to help, (though all I have is an emulator right now), I'd like to possibly take a shot.

Like you I don't have much 128 itnernal knowledge, but I did find alot of reference and could look things up probably.

Anyways, let me know what's going on.  I ask because well it's been 5 months or so already since the last post. So i'm wondering.

September 30, 2006, 02:41 AM
Hmm anything happened with this? if it's possible, I'd be curious to have Blitz 128 as well.

Thank you.

Does it have to be a graphic app?  could it be, for example, an infocom like game? if it's original of course :-).

How about Power C?   I just found that one online...so far looks rather complete...but I dont know about Super C.....where can I find out about Abacus Basic 128 ?

General chat / All about the newbie ;-)...
September 29, 2006, 07:23 AM
Hi everyone,

Wow, my commodore history starts at the very beginning of commodore (well before that, but this is my commodore history ;-) ). my first commodore computer was the Commodore PET 2001.  I was given a KIM-1 but never quite used it proficiently, just toyed with it for a while.  After that I got every commodore computer that came out since.  Pet 4032, SuperPet, CBM-2, Vic 20, C=64, SX-64, C=16, C=128, and most Amigas until the A4000.  needless to say, I've always loved commodore computers. ;-).

today, I still have a C=64 with 1541 Floppy drive and a 1702 monitor along with a few 100 games. :-).  I sure wish a whole lot I had a C=128 setup.  One day, I'll find something :-).  For now, Winvice is my friend.

Although I wasn't 1/2 bad at drawing and things.  My true passion in programming, since the Vic-20, was sound and music.  My first program was a small but usable drum machine on the Vic-20.  For those of you that wonder, I did have a 16Kb memory expander ;-).  So I had a bit of room to store some drum patterns.  basically, I would use a string value to convert characters to drum instruments (well different frequency white noise, not actual drum sounds lol but it did give a rythm). Then the C=64 arrive and I was in heaven with those "back then" high quality sounds ;-).    After I finally, after a while, memorized the 64 pokes to play with sounds, along comes the C=128 with it's Sound, Envelope, and other instructions to make my life easy. ;-) Murphy's law.

Anyway, commodore machines, especially the 128 have always been a passion of mine. So I'm very glad to have found this place.

Hoping to talk to all of you real soon. :-).
