Title: ( HELP ) Monitor Cable
Post by: swordfish1030 on September 25, 2007, 03:21 PM
I am trying to connect my C128 to a 1084s monitor using a RGB digital cable.
can I use a male/female DB9 null modem cable?

The C128 needs the male end, where as the 1084s needs the female end.

Or what/where do i find a cable for this?

No you can't use a null-modem cable, as those have wires crossed over.

I made my own, very easy to do, just get to DB9 connectors and some 9 core cable (I actually used CAT-5 which is only 8 core), and a soldering iron .. easy job not fiddly at all.

Pinout is available here : http://www.technick.net/public/code/cp_dpage.php?aiocp_dp=pinconvid_c128_rgb

Pins 1 and 2 I just joined together with a single wire so I could get away with using the CAT-5 cable.
All others were just mapped straight through (ping 3 to 3 pin 4 to 4 etc etc)

If you don't go extreme on the cable lengths it will work just fine.

You don't have to make your own cable with a soldering iron.
Just try a DB9 extension cord (seriell) it has male/female and is wired 1:1. Pay attention to get a full wired cabel.
