Title: Smuggling in new toys....
Post by: Mark Smith on October 24, 2007, 04:46 PM
OK so we're all overgrown kids here .. how do you guys smuggle your latest toy into the house ?  And what excuse do you use if discovered ?

:-)

I'll start with my tip for upgrading the computer:

Buy an identical looking one and transfer over all data and profiles so the other half can't tell :-)
I swapped my G4 Mac Mini for an Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini, then lovely OSX imported the old computer to the new .. no difference at all except performance .. hehehehehehehe

I just tell her that she should be happy I'm not a golfer or a photographer because those hobbies can get expensive really quickly.

Have a "toy" storage area that's always really messy so an extra box goes unnoticed... :D

I have the new toy sent to my son's home. When the boss is out shopping with her sister, I go pick it up.;)

Yeah, I do this too.  Things get "lost in the shuffle" so to speak.

Guys, just be thankful you've got someone there to complain. My wife died four years ago at the age of 52 from a lifelong heart condition. Now I'm free to have all the toys I want, but I'd trade them all if I could just have her back. :(

So sorry to hear that airship. All the fun toys in the world couldn't replace a loved one.

She was actually pretty good about the toys, anyway. Especially once I found a way to earn a living with them. :)

Well, I have a dedicated room in the house for my toys (mainly Commodore and Amiga computers of all kinds) which I can fill with anything I want. And my better half doesn't care what I do with my money any more than I care what she does with hers (like buying books).

That would be me, yes :) Not done any work on it for a few years though. A C128 "port" would be an interesting project...

It's never a problem around here.  I already have so much computer crap my wife can't tell the difference.  She's happy as long as I do my chores and let her have all the hot water in the morning.
