Could someone with a 1581 with this mech possibly tell me the jumper/cable orientations?

I've been really slack .. STILL not looked at my drive .. however since the 1581 and the Amiga 500 are compatible with pretty much the same drives, have a look at :

Might give you some pointers as to what needs jumpering.

I happened to be inside one of my 1581s tonight, turns out it's a Chinon F-354E. The data cable goes straight to the mech with no twist, the red wire ends up on the outboard side of the mech. The power cable goes red cable toward the inside, brown toward the outside of the mech. The only jumper I see is J7, the two pins toward the outside of the mech are connected. This info is from a later drive (high serial number, the MOS chips are marked 35/87) with a 1772-02 disk controller. Pay attention to the controller: I don't know how many 1581s shipped with the 1770, but if you have one I think the mechanism needs a different jumper config.

I took two crude photos of the setup just in case the descriptions are vague, send me your e-mail address if you want 'em.

Mind if I ask where you got your replacement mechanism? I've got two 1581s, an early one with a Newtronics mech and the later F-354E, and both are now dead. I've been randomly swapping components, but I'm approaching the conclusion that both drives are in need of new mechanisms.

These shouldn't be too hard to come by as these drives were also used in the A2000, so if you can find a second hand A2000 that's bung you'll get it fairly cheap.
