Post by: StyleCHM on January 07, 2008, 07:40 AM

Chasing a copy of this book, just thought Id ask on the off chance someone here has a copy they no longer need.

Happy to pay/swap whatever.

Some time ago, I downloaded the PDF version, and bound and printed it (using comb binding -- I have the machine and supplies, as well as a *very* fast printer).  It lays nice and flat, unlike the original, which was perfect bound and therefore annoying to work from while typing.

isnt there like a million typos in the PDF due to poor OCR?

Not a million though.  The one I have is clean enough.

There you go, Lance - this guy can program an ancient C128 in assembler standing on his head, but he can't figure out how to upload a file to your board!

If that isn't an editorial on the GUI for this place, I don't know what is! :D

PS I've never tried, so I have no idea...

Currently you can't upload directly - just email it to me at llyon (at) landover.no-ip.com or landover (at) tpg.com.au

Geesh!  Australia!  It'll take the packets two weeks to get there from here.    Might be faster to mail a floppy disk.

Just kidding!  :stolt:

I've said it a hundred times. Australia is a myth, like the Loch Ness Monster or dinosaurs.

Im moving to australia... the election scene here in America is making people crazy. The whole process is a mess. For instance - why can only one of these people be the republican or democrat candidate? Why not skip these "primaries" and just vote for who you want on Nov 5.  This stuff is treated like the NFL playoffs.  Sorry for the off-topic... its on every single channel here, and so annoying.

Haven't you read the Aussie's posts about THEIR elections? :)

Check out William Poundstone's new book 'Gaming the Vote' for info on fairer ways to elect our leaders.

http://www.amazon.com/Gaming-Vote-Elections-Arent-About/dp/0809048930

Of course, that still doesn't improve the quality of the candidates...

Australian elections arent *too* bad - the only real difficulty we have is that the seats have different numbers of people in them - therefore, my vote is not worth the same as someone in another seat.

Ofcourse, our politicians bs with the best of them - but we live without the vegas-style theatrics :)

Hmm, never saw any politician here with showgirls or Elvis in front.  ;-)

If only we could afford them for CommVEx,  ;-)

Yeah, the best-looking woman we get on the stage during political season is Hillary Clinton. :förvånad:

By the way, does anyone happen to have original scans of this book???

thanks

I do. I provided the first downloadable PDF version of the book a couple of years ago, but it wasn't OCR:ed and was thus huge, ~100MB. I suppose I still have the JPGs somewhere, as well as the PDF of course but I'm in the middle of a move so all my C= stuff is packed away at the moment. Will try and remember to get back to you in a few weeks. If I don't, remind me!

Its all good from my point of view, I managed to find a real copy.

Would be nice to have the PDF kicking around though :)

I've looked all over for the original scanned version, to no avail. All there is is the crappy OCRed version with all the errors. I DID clean that one up and fix a few of the high-level errors in it (though not any of the OCR errors) - a copy is in the PDF library (link in the post below - thanks, Michael!) with the title 'Penultimate Mapping the C128', or something like that.

Ill probably give it a go - I mean, when I get it Ill probably sit down and read it from cover to cover anyway, so I may as well scan/OCR/cleanup as I go.

Might even get my missus to lay it all out on her Mac - she's into things like that :)

I haven't yet found the original scans, but I did find the hi-res PDF (150 dpi) I made from the scans (http://www.baconman.nu/c128/Mapping_the_Commodore128_150dpi.pdf). Beware - it's 95 MB.

Can such a large file be uploaded to the forum?
