I've been giving consideration to changing away from PunBB to Simple Machine Forums.

A few reasons for this :

PunBB 1.3 is now over 12 months late, many of the features that will be in it are already in SMF.
There are security issues with PunBB 1.2.14 (run here) & because of some of the mods in use here I've been unable to patch to 1.2.16
Mods are very easy to install in SMF, with PunBB this is a laborious task & I have already had the experience (several times) where I've installed a mod that has broken others, backing out is pain!
PunBB 1.2.x is likely to be the last open source release of PunBB, the developers have struck a deal that will make the next release a proprietary closed system - bad IMHO

I've already test-run the import of PunBB to SMF & it works flawlessly, all user data, categories & posts copied correctly. And there are some nice mods for it too.

Discuss guys, your thoughts please!

Don't care so long as the forum is here, the info is here and the people stay the same .. not going to change the users personalities are you ? :-)

I'm with the other guys. If it makes your life easier and/or adds some functionality, why not? Go for it.

That will be the day I die, or shortly thereafter - now considering I'm only 42 I reckon (based on average life-span of male Australians) I've got another 43 years left :) Reckon VICE will still be under development then ?

I feel your pain, a while back I toyed with phpBB and was plagued by security issues and mod installs/upgrades.
