The original SimCity source code has finally been made public, published under the GPL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/library.html) license. For copyright reasons, all references to the original trademark still held by Maxis (http://www.maxis.com/) has been replaced and the project is now known as Micropolis. The source code tar-archive is a 7,32 MB download currently available from DonHopkins.com. Technically inclined users may want to read a few notes about the code's current status in this blog entry (http://weblogs.asp.net/bsimser/archive/2008/01/10/simcity-source-code-released-to-the-wild-let-the-ports-begin.aspx).

So. there was a C64 version, how about someone getting their hands dirty & creating a 128 version ? On the VDC ? How about we all chip in and create a bounty ?

The thing is, the released source code is not for the 64 version.

Examining algorithms to learn the frequency of events and such might be useful in replicating the game but porting the C? That's a tall order. I think it would be easier (I use the word loosely) to create a 128 version from the 64 one and no, I'm not volunteering. I've got my hands full with my current projects.
