Has anyone got this work on the VICE emulator (or any emulator so far for that matter)....
If so, I'd like to know which emulator and how.
I've tried with vice only so far, and well, there's unpredictable things happening....unstable, I boot with the disks in and it doesn't pick it up, or it does pick it up, gives me the main basic 8 menu, but seems to stall after...sometimes will go further some, had to predict because it doesn't work or it will, to some point, and it doesn't seem to depend on anything that I can think of.
anyone else got this problem? if so, did you fix it? if so, how? ;-).
Thank you
Hey mystik.. I *think* the problem here is that the VDC emulation in VICE is not even close to 100%. Theres alot of hacks in there to get it to work for character mode. Im really surprised that even GEOS 128 works in it. (maybe thats what they used to get it as complete as it is) But I havent tried B8 to the nth degree to find out where it fails.
Hi xlar, thank you for the reply.
so far, I don't seem to have a problem running GEOS in it no. but I do know basic 8 to really play with the vdc, so that could be why ;-)
oh well for that, I 'll just have to wait to get lucky and find me a 128 :-)
hehehe.. I have to blame Jim Brain and the Qlink folks for my re-purchase of my 128. When I first found Jeff Ledger's telnet BBS site, and the interfaces to get a 128 on the internet and access BBSs, I had to get the 128 back. Found someone nearby (he knows who he is :) ) and bid out on ebay. Sad that Qlink has rather faded a bit, but those guys rock for their effort. Take a look out on ebay, im sure you'll find something for a good price.

I actually blame this site for my re-interest in the 128. My poor 128 had been languishing in a cupboard for way too lomg. After I found here I started getting interested again. The amount of downloads available here are pretty phenomenal too. Gotta admit, my 128 is getting used a damn sight more regularly now than it's been for a loooooong time.

Blame huh ? :)
lol hey, that's seems to be an easy way...;-) can I blame this place too when I get mine (notice I didn't say if, I said when ;-)). LOL
but yeah, I can't quite right now, but soon, there will be a 128 here. if only commodore could see us now :-). hehe

I picked up a third recently on eBay - I notice they are starting to get a lot more expensive than even 2 or 3 years ago. There was a 128D in Australia a few weeks back (it did come with a lot of stuff admittedly) that ended up _higher_ than an SX64 that was selling at the same time - and they usually go for in excess of $AU200).
This machine now gives me all models - flat, 128D & 128DCR although I want another DCR as the one I have is just a tad bit scuffed.
Some guys have all the luck ;-)....3 C128 huh? I wish I had your problems....LOL
But yeah, like I posted somewhere else on this forum, christnas is coming, things are on sale, I'm hopeful :-)...maybe in January I'll be telling you the same thing...hehe
There's more 128's & 128D's up on eBay Oz - including a whole bunch of stuff that's pickup only in Melbourne.
Melbourne huh....I'm not sure I'm ready to go pick one up there...that C128 would cost me a couple thousand dollars...lol...well in plane tickets and such hehe..
But yeah I'm keeping updated on what's out there. :-)..when the time comes, I'll get one, i'm sure. :-).
BASIC 8 works for me on WinVICE 1.20, but it required some very minor fiddling to get it to work.
First, make sure that True Drive Emulation is OFF. BASIC8 won't work properly if it's on. This is probably the main issue keeping you from being able to use it.
Next, of course, you'll want to start the emulator in 80-column mode (Press F7 and do a hard reset) with the BASIC 8 boot disk in the drive.
The BASIC 8 meny will boot and give you 3 options: BASIC 8 EDITOR, BASIC PAINT, BASIC 8 RUN TIME.
Choose whichever option you want, then it will prompt you to enter a blank disk.
Insert a .D64 to use as a blank and it will prepare the disk for use.
When done, do a hard reset with the disk you just created still in the drive.
Enjoy!
EDIT: I should add that I don't know how fully it's supported once you get it working, but it does at least seem able to do 640x200 monochrome graphics on VICE. I haven't tested it beyond that yet.
