Title: Programming documentation/ reference
Post by: hannenz on February 11, 2008, 10:24 PM
well, there are several resources for good documentation using ML in the c128:
- mapping the c128 is great
- there is a documentet ROM listing somewhere
- then the programmer's reference guide
and quite a few more...
but they are all available as PDF and in a way quite "oversized" format for everyday usage or a quick look-up
Isn't there some compressed reference for quick looking up that special kernal subroutine you need right now? or a quick overview over the VDC registers... you now what i mean - it annoys me to load up the PDF viewer, then go through all that pages without any search facility to look for a tiny bit of information that i need

I think it would be time to put something together that covers the most common registers, addresses, kernal/basic addresses at one indexed and cross-referenced html or whatever page where you could quickly look up whats needed  - not concerning with every detail but as a rough overview providing the most important facts and maybe some links / hints to more detailed resources.
perfect would be something like aay64 for the c128 but that might be too much work to do in a coffe break.

any chance that such a thing does yet exist and i missed it up to now?
or maybe we could start some kind of project by compiling such a resource...???!
interest? ideas? suggestions?

I've wikified most of Mapping the 128 and am about to import it to 2mhz.net/wiki. People should feel free to correct any errors, as well as add new articles or expand upon existing ones.

Anyone know what happened to 2mhz.net ? Doesn't seem to be available anymore - and Michael hasn't been around since disappearing abruptly back in February.

Didn't he have twins about then, or something?

Not sure - seems to have vanished from everywhere.

Sounds like another one lost to the mists of time...   :(

I don't know who I was thinking of when I said 'twins', but after an exhaustive search of Michael's posts I found this thread from Dec-07:

http://landover.no-ip.com/forums/index.php?topic=1756.msg6883#msg6883

in which he says he had just come home after spending two weeks in the hospital due to problems with his asthma medicine. I hope it's nothing like that. His last post was in February (in fact, it's the one above). Maybe he just got tired of us?  :(

Lance, you have access to his 'hidden' email, don't you? Couldn't you drop him a line?

I've emailed him & it didn't bounce, but haven't had anything back - the email account is linked to 2mhz.net which doesn't seem to have anything there anymore - the domain is due to expire in December.

He also hasn't posted in comp.sys.cbm for a long time either. That post was in December, he disappeared abruptly on 12th Feb. Anyone got any other contact details for him ?

Lance

Asthma is very serious.  A friend's teenage daughter died following an attack in which her rescue inhaler apparently ran out of medicine.  I sure hope nothing like this has happened to Michael.

Although mine is well controlled with an inhibitor, I make sure there's spare inhalers all over the place (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, loungeroom, at work, in my backpack, in the cars). I've had one scare & got seriously paranoid!

Has he been about on CSC ?

I also hope it's nothing too serious...  Unfortunately, it does seem that people disappear all the time from the Commodore world.  :(

I did some looking into the status of 2mhz.net.  It seems the domain record is still valid.  However, a dig 2mhz.net or dig mx 2mhz.net shows that there is no server responding on behalf of the 2mhz.net domain.  In other words, the doorbell still works but no one is at home to answer.

Yeah - got the same, no-one on CSC was able to help either.
