Does anyone have or know where i can get a 1571 head assy or drive mechanism? Tried some of the usual places, but most people are selling the whole drive (working or not).
thanks for your help.
In cases like this is is often less expensive and always easier to just buy another 1571. :(
Golan is right... In the "old days", you could've just contacted Commodore directly and ordered the part, or picked one up from an Authorized Commodore Repair Facility. Kind of makes me wonder, what happened to all those "spare parts" like drive mechanisms for the 1541 and 1571?
Got128, where are you located? A nearby Commodore User Group might be your best bet at picking up a 1571 for spare parts. Or, you could get a working one and keep the one you have now for parts. Either way, let us know where you're at, and we can direct you to the nearest User Group...
Might as well grab a complete 1571, you never know what other parts you might need. For instance, I keep alot of old pc cards, 1541 guts, and misc cables in case I need a spare part for something.
Thanks for the helpful responses. I have three 1571's. One works, two have bad head assy one also has a bad controller (soon to be fixed - i can get parts for it pretty easy).
I am in the Kansas City area and am looking at a few drives on ebay and emailing some of the online stores to see what they have. Too bad most of the stores only deal in whole units, so I think you guys are correct in that I will have to get a drive that at least has a good drive mech.
I guess I can always use the spare case and power supply for uIEC or something like that. It sure takes lots of patience to work with this stuff - I'm on my third monitor and really have not even started to use the system yet!

Your other option is to have the drives repaired by someone like Ray Carlsen.

I don't have any contact info for them, as i just moved to town a few years ago. If you have some info on them , it would be much appreciated.
Ray is on my list of people to email - I hope he is still actively fixing stuff and has the parts.
BTW, i did see head assy for sale at Maurice's web site - if you guys had already bought him out, i could order them from here!!

CUGKC has monthly meetings and a stock of C= items they wish to sell off. You can contact lenardroach(at)yahoo.com ; he is the editor of their monthly newsletter.

Yes, Ray is still fixing C= items. A few weeks ago I picked up a repaired C128DCR from him, a repaired PET 2001 (though he only repairs PETs as a favor to me), and some repaired SX-64 keyboard cables. I left him to repair our club's 1571, 1581, and my PET 8032 and 8050.

No problem. Tell Lenard I sent you. :) I still have to send him our review of his program, The Envelope Addressor (TEA). He's also thinking of making a C128 version of it (yeah!).
Speaking of CUGKC, I was thinking of visiting their club next summer and also the Fort Collins Commodore Club (Colorado) in a kind of cross-country trip.
