This software has the ability to integrate with mailing list software - if there's enough interest, I can build that in - that way members can have alternate methods of accessing the forums. Comments ?

Directly - no, though it will send email notifications of topics you subscribe to. But pairing it to a mailing list would enable you to get the posts in either digest or email form anyway (& post back).
