Is there any particular reason you're looking for that specific device?

I'd like to add solid-state hard drive to my commodore 128D, I seen the 1541 ultimate but too expensive... also ordered it about 5 months ago but too many time yet required to have it.

Seen on the web that sd2iec is the best after 1541 ultimate, do you know other alternatives?

I downloaded sd2iec schematics but I'm not good to make an smd PCB

Can you help me?

I think the Micro IEC (http://www.jbrain.com/vicug/gallery/uIEC) is the best non-1541 compatible mass storage device and the uIEC/SD is small enough that it can be mounted inside various C= computers. There's a wee bit more information in this Usenet posting (http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.cbm/browse_thread/thread/fd747bd45d83e690). I can ask Jim where inquiries about purchasing should be directed if you're interested.

The uIEC works with JiffyDOS and Super Snapshot and a few other fastloaders and Jim is working on adding compatibility with others so it shouldn't be a problem. As for price, the tiny SD model is $50 USD and the larger model that uses CF cards and supports IDE devices is $75 USD.

Hello, i'd like to buy an SD2IEC, where can I buy it...
NKCElectronics.com was producing them; however, the first production run was sold out.  Unless Tony Kim of NKCElectronics.com has done a second production run, then the SD2IEC is not available new from him.

Yes, communication with Tony is spotty.  He has posted messages about the MMC2IEC/SD2IEC a few times at the PETSCII Forums.

Did you read the Usenet posting I linked to? Contact brain@jbrain.com and he'll answer your questions. Time is a variable dependent upon his stock (I understand he has them on hand) and shipping time to your country. As for the SD2IEC, I wouldn't bother as it is inferior to the uIEC in every way.

mmm, I'm thinking about uIEC... do you know if support multipart games? I'm using 64hdd but can play single files only... I had to copy "defender of the crown" and many others multi-part games on 5,25 floppies using Star Commander to play they! In fact they doesn't works on 64hdd due "no fastloaders" support.
Also do you know if the uIEC can be works on a 128D with Jiffydos kernal?

many thanks for your help!

Yes, it supports multi-part games and yes, it will work with a 128D with JiffyDOS.

Because uIEC supports the same commands as SD2IEC and because I have used SD2IEC with multi-part applications, I say it would be reasonable to assume that uIEC supports multi-part games, too.

Based upon my experience with SD2IEC with the Jiffy-DOSsed C128D, there should be no problem with uIEC.

Why don't you contact Jim Brain directly?

But if uIEC use the same firmware of SD2IEC, why uIEC is best than SD2IEC?

For one thing, uIEC is currently being produced, whereas SD2IEC isn't.  :)  uIEC is also flexible in terms of media storage; depending on the version you buy, you can get CompactFlash only, CompactFlash plus IDE connector, or SD.  Jim Brain is working on the implemention USB on the uIEC.  There has been some talk of Ethernet for the uIEC but nothing definite.

If I am forgetting something, I'm sure
            Jim will remind me,  :)

I won't go into the "this is better than that", for various reasons, but here are some differences:

As for stock, I just sold my last of the first 20 SD units today, but 100 units are arriving around Jan 20th.  I have not made any announcement as yet, but I will when it gets closer to the date.  I'm getting a better at judging demand, so I hope to be in stock at all times.

As RobertB notes, the hardware does differ.  I'm working on a USB link to the PC at present.
