Title: GEOS in Computerworld's "gone but not forgotten" OS's
Post by: RobertB on March 26, 2009, 12:47 PM
Computerworld has listed the top 10 "gone but not forgotten" computer operating systems, which includes GEOS!  Also in the batch are CP/M (for C128 fans) and AmigaOS (for Ami aficionados).  Go to

http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&taxonomyName=Operating+Systems&articleId=9129459&taxonomyId=89&pageNumber=1

to read the details and to go to the screenshots of the various operating systems.

Methinks the guy is a bit premature in declaring some of these OS's dead. I'm sure anyone using X Windows, or BeOS, or even DOS would beg to differ with him. And even AmigaOS is still alive.

Perhaps he's counting continuing development.  As for Amiga OS, other than an unofficial Boing Bag 3, there has been no further development on OS 3.9 for classic Amigas.  Perhaps he's counting heads.  Amiga OS 4.1 just came out with its first update, but with only 1,000 to 2,000 AmigaOnes sold and a number of Sam and Amiga PPC's running OS 4.0/4.1, that OS hasn't spread very far.
