Hi everybody,
I managed to build a circuit that allows the use of user defined characters instead of the default chargen rom.
It is known running with CBM 3032 but should soon run run with 8096 / 8296 too.
Visit http://home.germany.net/nils.eilers/chargen (http://home.germany.net/nils.eilers/chargen) and see some pictures etc.
It comes with a font editor that even runs if you don't have the hardware. All you need is at least 2 KB RAM at $9000.
I'm very sorry, the hompage is in german only so far.
Best regards,
for(;;)

I've been following you're post on forum64.de
Very interesting!
I'm waiting for you to make a final version, then I'm going to build me one too.
Well done ! :tummenupp:

Nice! But didn't hardware extentions like this exist 30 years ago as well, when they really would have been useful? I know Jeff Minter would've loved to get his (or his school's) hands on an expansion like this one.

Carlsson, if you've got any information about user defined characters for PET/CBM computers from 1978, please let me know.

I don't, thus I asked the question. I just find it odd if nobody came up with similar - or at least crude - solutions given how many user groups there were.
