Steve Punter wrote PETBBS and used it to run a BBS here in Toronto around 1980. I don't have a copy of the software though (never did). I've never come across a BBS program for the PET anywhere on the net. :(

According to http://software.bbsdocumentary.com/ (http://software.bbsdocumentary.com/) Punternet was the only one , there's quite a lengthy description at http://software.bbsdocumentary.com/COMMODORE/PET/PUNTERNET/punter_c1.txt (http://software.bbsdocumentary.com/COMMODORE/PET/PUNTERNET/punter_c1.txt)
Unfortunately no source.
It'd be "relatively" easy to convert one of the very early C64 message boards to it though i would think.
cheers,
Lance

The name PunterNET didn't come along until later. He used that name to describe the network of boards running his Commodore 64 BBS software called Punter BBS (quite the self promoter). Punter boards were exchanging messages long before Fido came along although Punter's popularity was mostly in the Toronto area (at least most of the nodes were). I first met Steve more than 25 years ago as we were both members of the Toronto PET User's Group. He came by our 25 anniversary reunion a couple of years ago and told a few stories. Unfortunately, he is no longer involved in the C= community. :(

Honestly, I think it would be easier to write something from scratch.

Does noone have the software anymore?

I'll send Steve some email and see if he still has a copy and is willing to share it. I wouldn't get too excited though. Steve is a complex guy and wasn't all that warm to similar requests made in the past about his other programs. :(

"complex guy"? :)

I just meant that you can never tell how he'll react to something. We'll see.
