Title: Recognizing input devices
Post by: MIRKOSOFT on September 22, 2009, 04:33 PM
Hi!

Maybe it's stupid problem/Q/or idea, but...

Is anyway possible to recognize which device is connected to Control Ports?

I mean recognizing btw. joystick/mouse/paddles/light pen...

Thanks for every idea or advice.

As far as I know, the only thing you can do is ask the user and hope they tell the truth.

A little off topic but this reminds me of a problem I'm wanting to solve.  I'm seriously tired of constantly unplugging and replugging in my joystick between ports to make it work with various games.  I was going to wire up a simple 4 cable with a toggle switch but and worried about possibly blowing something up in the 1/4 sec that they may end up joined together...  I'm thinking a three way switch might do the trick as the middle pole could be left unwired but am unsure.  Anyone try something like this?

Why not just keep TWO joysticks plugged in all the time?  ???

You may want a mouse plugged in to the other port ?

Mouse, and also just desk space...  Very limited room and I like to keep things a minimal as possible and not have 100 cables everywhere.... :)
