Big cleanup of the memberlist about to happen.
Next Saturday (3/4/10) I'll be deleting all accounts with zero posts. A lot of these are accounts that have been set up to spam and never used.
Some genuine members who lurk but have never posted may get caught up in - if so apologies in advance.
You'll see that in recent days I've flagged a few spammers. More often than not, their signatures give them away. :)
You curmudgeonly old dinosaur, what do you have to do that's better than sitting around reading spam, anyway? ;)
So far I've been able to get 'em before they could post anything. Their "signatures" are usually a dead giveaway. In fact, I caught one this afternoon. Yes, I can be curmudgeonly. :)
Usually they try and post links - can't be done by new members though :)
Cleanup completed - approximately 200 members deleted. New registration checks put in as well that will trap most of 'em.
I remember Jeff Ledger asked the question "What is the reset SYS command for the C64?" on his forum to make sure the person signing up was reasonably intelligent.

So I noticed. Let 'em go and spam CNN or BBC. :)
Around 20 zero post members have been deleted as part of the clean up. Mostly they registered ages ago and never participated. Some may have been untrapped spam accounts.
Next round of the clean up will be to email all members to confirm their accounts - any that bounce will be deleted. (Tip - make sure your email address in your profile is up to date).
Well, it's working: "1654 Spammers blocked up until today"
Nearly all gmail accounts - I may just block the gmail domain.

will that impact those of us who have gmail addresses as our profile email? or will it only affect new registrations?

New registrations only.
