Title: How to check if is ETHERNET connected?
Post by: MIRKOSOFT on August 30, 2010, 09:50 PM
Hi!

My Q is now too complicated.

HOW TO CHECK IF IS ANY ETHERNET ADAPTER CONNECTED?

What I know are:
1541Ultimate (RR-Net compatible)
RR-Net
SilverSurfer
TFE
ETH64

Main problem is how to detect it - independent on type/model...

I think it can't be universal, but if you can help me, please.

Thank you everybody.

Miro

And the 64NIC+ from Jim Brain and the Comet64 Internet Modem (which connects via the user port) from CommodoreServer.com

Hi Robert!

You helped me very useful.

I found more adapters and have one Q:

Which to select: I want adapter to User Port or Cartridge Port.
Which is better: Comet64 / ETH64 or 64NIC+ / FB-Net / TFE ????
I want to connect to web, not only connect to PC for file transfer.

Can you give to me advice?

Many many thanks!

Miro

For speed, the 64NIC+ is available and has applications ready for it, because it is RR-Net-compatible.  The Comet64 is currently available, too, but right now it is slower through the user port and has the V-1541 software, but it seems to be easily programmable to do more.

Allan B has a Comet64 and will be testing/reviewing this hardware. The RR-Net is a bit flaky at times and doesn't like UK-made PAL C128s regardless of what the Commodore elite will tell you. If you have a German-made Commodore 128, this will work better. Not sure about NTSC machines.

Shaun.
