Title: What do I need to transfer disks from 1541 to my Mac?
Post by: tmcmanamey on December 17, 2010, 02:38 AM
I'd like to know what I need to convert 1541 disks to disk images using a Mac.  I need the hardware to connect it and the software to convert.  Thanks.

OpenCBM works on Mac OS, as far as I know, but you're going to need an XU1541 or XUM1541 adapter since the Mac doesn't have a parallel port.  You may have to run OpenCBM under Windows on your Mac.

The only way I've gotten it to work is to run a Windows Virtual Machine and then use WARPCOPY via the C64NET adapter.

No need to run Warpcopy under a Windows VM. Diskimagery64 (http://lallafa.de/blog/diskimagery64/) is made for the Mac (but works in Linux and Windows too) and uses the Warpcopy protocol to transfer disk images to a C64 over Ethernet. You still need an RR-Net compatible Ethernet adapter for the C64 though. Your best bet is probably Jim Brain's 64NIC+ (http://www.jbrain.net/products/64NIC%252b.html).

Edit: it appears Jim is having a sale on the 64NIC+ during the holiday season (http://www.jbrain.com/2010/11/19/64nic-sale/).
