Anyone managed to get serial emulation under WinVICe working ?
I'm attempting to get it to talk to a modem emulator (NetSerial) but zippo luck so far.
Lance
I would assume serial communication would be hell, atleast in winvice (a 129 API ofer a Windows API over the actual hardware). I wonder if there wouldn't be more success in VICE for DOS emulation rather?
Have you tried tcpser or BBS server (http://www.jammingsignal.com/files/)?

No, will try both & report back.

I added a link for BBS Server. It comes with a nice manual and is easy to use, so I'd recommend giving that a try first. Ah, wait, nevermind. I don't think BBS Server supports connecting from WinVICE but looks for a cable. I helped a friend of mine set up a real C64 to use Telnet that way. In the case of WinVICE, tcpser (http://gcns.com/vice/vice.html) will probably do. I think the PETSCII.com forums had something about using it with WinVICE a while back.
Awesome, I think we have a great solution on the verge of manifesting itself here. Thank God! ;-)
Ok, I've been following the instructions at http://gcns.com/vice/vice.html but so far have not been able to get _any_ BBS software to answer successfully answer. Anyone got any ideas with this ?
cheers,
Lance
Try this preconfigured setup and see if you can get it working: http://retrogradebbs.com/c64bbs_vice.html
Well, there is one bit of configuring you need to do: Before loading the BBS software, go to your RS232 settings in WinVICE and change the address to 127.0.0.1:25232
Also, be sure any firewall you're running is set to allow incoming TCP connections on ports 6400 and 25232.
Works for me, but the built-in Windows Telnet program seems to have issues connecting. Putty Telnet (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html) works if you want to see what a standard telnet client displays, but after connecting be sure to say yes when the BBS software asks if you'd like ANSI graphics. Even better, use CGTERM (http://www.paradroid.net/cgterm/) to connect, since that supports PETSCII graphics. Just use either one and connect to 127.0.0.1, port 6400.
Anyway, if you can get that working, maybe you can get your preferred BBS software running using similar settings. Good luck!
Lance,
Any luck yet?

Not vastly - but I haven't spent much time yet - will be on three days off now though, so plan on devoting best part of that time to various projects.

I see your BBS isn't answering telnet connections - are you planning on swapping to a Commie board ?
