Guys,

Hoping someone can help here.

I've installed Telserv & can get it to establish a telnet connection to both my 128 & a spare PC. No issues with getting it to connect to either. However, no matter what BBS software I'm running, I get the same result - it sends the RING message, gets back an ATA, sends the CONNECT xxx message & then whatever BBS software is on the answering computer side always sends the AT{whatever} setup string & promptly drops carrier.

Any suggestions ?

cheers,

Lance

Bugger! Bugger! Bugger! I'm confusing myself (& everyone else again) - I mean Leif Bloomquists' BBS Server

Have you tried changing the case of the CONNECT string? I know BBS Server has an option to try to determine the correct case, but maybe it's guessing wrong. That may be why the BBS gives up on the connection and reintializes the modem.

The only other thing I can think to suggest would be turning on the RS-232 diagnostic logs and looking closely at what's happening during the connect sequence.

Found my problem - the null modem cable I'm using only has 3 wires. DTR was not being honoured. Anyone any good at building cables ? (In particular, the standard Telbbs cable).

Hi Lance,

What does a standard Telbbs cable look like? Do you have the pinouts?

Cheers

Seems easy to make. Does it use male or female DB9 connectors at both ends?

Female DB9 both ends - I'd try but there'd be more solder on me than on the cable :/

No worries. I can build a cable for about $6 + postage if you're interested.

Sold to the worlds' most useless solderer in the corner :) (which would be me)
