Don't put the ROMs in the wrong way around!  They don't like it!

And don't mess with computers when tired ..

Oh well bed time, will gather the smoke in again tommorow.

Luckily just an EPROM and everything else survived ... was annoying though as I'd just got it all programmed and a switch connected .. took me 5 mins to work out why it was not working ... oh well, got some sleep now so will just do it all over again ..but without the mistake this time :-)

I know the feeling... managed to fry a VIC-II chip once... it was a late night and the chip went in the wrong way :gråta:

I confirm. Putting chips in the wrong way is bad, m'kay? :) I did this when I was young (and foolish) with both the video chips. Didn't know to look at the markings - just remembered they were positioned opposite to each other, so either both were okay or both were in the wrong way and to my dismay I of course picked the wrong choice - but nothing broke!

Sometimes if eprom is inserted backwards in circuit there will be a brief flash of light in UV erase window.

The eprom is toast after this happens.

However, for a short period you have "flash" memory ;)
