Apart from opening the case, is there another way of determining what ROM is inside the beastie ?
cheers,
Lance
Yes ... I just forget at the moment, there's one of those commands you can sedn that'll dump out the version. Also there is a PRG somewhere that will diagnose.
Lance, whats so hard about taking it apart..afterall its only 2 screws;)
I personally like to get my hands abit dirty when checking out roms, chips etc. as it is the sure way of knowing what is goin on inside your computer/drive etc. It is also great to do some light house keeping in there as well from time to time...

And by the time I'm finished, there'd be 14 screws, the chips'd be in backwards & the drive mechanism upside down :förvånad:

Anyone know where to find the ROM(s) images to use with a high density disk mechanism? I'm thinking that a 1.76Mb drive might be useful.
What type of HD mech is compatible with the 1581?

I have a spare mechanism from an Amiga 3000/4000 but I can't tell you who made it or what the model # is because it is stored away right now. If I have time later today, I'll dig it out. I had two such mechanisms and I put one in an Amiga 1200 and I was debating what to do with the other when I learned of the 1582 aka the 1590 aka the 1591. I figured I might as well try to brew my own. :)
Thanks Golan.
Great info. Let us know if you source the ROM.
