Title: 80 column screen modes
Post by: Mangelore on April 17, 2007, 02:06 PM
Hi guys,

Is there a program available that can display all possible 80 column screen modes (resolutions, interlaced etc).

I need to be able to select a screen mode and then test it with a VGA converter.

Cheers
Fotios

There's probably a demo that would be better suited to your purpose, but off the top of my head, Craig Bruce's ZED text editor has four or five display modes (including a couple interlaced ones) which change the number of text lines displayed.  It can actually jam 50 lines of text on the screen, although the flicker is atrocious.  I believe the commands to change the display mode are CTRL + 1, CTRL + 2, etc.

I think Nick Rossi's Novaterm 9.6 also had various 80-column modes for the VDC, and that program is now freely available.

Not especially dazzling, but if you're just looking for functionality, they'll do.
