It could be what you are referring to is a Dallas 1216E SmartWatch, which can be plugged into the internal ROM socket in the 128.  It is designed so that it can be written to even though in a socket without a R/W signal.  Attaching it to a joystick port isn't too difficult.

It seems that this is the chip i am talking about. Thanks for the info.
Now lets see if i can get my hand on such a chip and if its executable to add it to my joystick port.
