Sorry for being off topic, but here in germany Data Becker was "famous" for publications full of mistakes and bugs. ...
I can confirm this. These books are "great" bug collections. Unfortunately I payed for this crap.

Hello again!

It looks like a christmas miracle, but I'm back with my formerly blocked dynamic "79.233...."-IP.

Thank's Santa Claus!

C64 general talk / U64 - a C64 running under water
November 22, 2010, 11:09 AM
Maybe my last post in this forum:

The guys from the CCL (Commodore Connection Line), especially Skern presented this weekend in Stuttgart (Germany) on the "Hobby & Elektronic" Consumer Show a C64 running under water (aka U64). They tried to keep the C64 running for an hour and the third try was successful. That is a new world record. There is a video on Youtube.

I'm really pissed off! >:(

I've tried it with three dynamic IPs of my provider (telekom, the biggest one in Germany):
79.233.123.20
79.233.124.222
79.233.123.133

All have been blocked by your " anti spam measures". You understand the concept of dynamic IPs?

Today, I'm here via a very slow anonym proxy but I will never return unless you solve this "lock out whole Germany problem".

Oh, a doubting WTE.  :)  Well, you will have to wait longer than 3 days for the drive to rise.  ;)  However, I will be in Europe next summer, and if you are there, I can bring the 1581 drive in question and show you how it can read a HD disk formatted at 1.6 megs.
...
The format of an 1.6 M CMD-formatted HD disk is completely incompatible with the 1581 DOS. This seems to be a real enigma! (much bigger than the mystery of the resurrection)

I do not think that blocking more than the half of all German users (1&1internet DE, Deutsche Telekom AG, NetDirekt and Schlund & Partners) is a really good idea.

Isn't there any captcha function with the registration form?

LRR works fine with 1,44 MB HD disks but you need a FD 2000 or FD 4000 (I do this since more than 20 years).

You have to use 720 kb formatted Disks in a 1581! May be (if you are lucky) you can use HD disks (720 kb formatted) but the most 1581 drives really needs DD Disks. I always got errors with my drive when I tested HD disks.

I've never heard about a 1581 working with 1,44 MB formatted disks. And I do not believe that before I can put my finger into the drive hole of the disk and the disk slit of the drive.

Some minutes ago I got a http failure message like "http://www.commodore128.org/" does not exists.
I have had more luck after a restart of the browser now. Are you sure you only block known spam bots from Germany?

SA 15 maybe not a good idea (closes all files).
Try it without SA (SA=$FF); as I remember correctly no SA could help.

1. Please check. Maybe UI resets the RL on device #9 back to the default value #11 ?
2. Post the code of your "device tester".

Hi!

Thank you very much for info about RAM Drive.

The battery: in manual is written Leak-acid 6V DC 6,5Ah and non-standard connector...
I got answer where was picture of battery, but really don't know what a type to buy...
This info will be also helpful.
If you can, please explain it to me (you wrote that you damaged your device: MeH instead of NiCd; maybe that was a big mistake) and I don't want to make the ame mistake.

Many thanks!

Miro

You mixed up the threads!
MeH versus NiCd relates ONLY to the RAMDrive (with internal accus) not to the RAMLink (external lead battery).

I powered my RL unintentionally more than a year with 12 V instead of 9 V It doesn't kill the unit (but I do not recommend to do that).

1 A works. 1.5 A works better (If you want to load the batterie quickly).

One of my RL batteries (big accu unit) is a Panasonic LCR6V10BP

1. for some further info about the DIRECT mode see: http://mikenaberezny.com/hardware/peripherals/cmd-ramlink/

2. I have had a RAMDrive (very smart and handy device; I used it as "portable Jiffy Dos") but it got damaged after I installed some new accus (MeH instead of NiCd; maybe that was a big mistake) (*grrrr*)

Pic of the (my) open device (there is a backup board an the main board, both sides full with electronic parts):

Pic (from http://www.commodore.ca/gallery/hardware/hardware.htm) of the RAMDrive:
http://www.commodore.ca/gallery/hardware/cmd_ramdrive.jpg

RAMDrive
ID: RD (instead of RL for RAMLink)
SCPU compatibility: not compatible with SuperCPU
Size: 1 or 2 MB RAM
Format: Supports mostly the same partition types than the RL (1541, 1571, 1581, native)
Optional: additional use of the memory of a REU (like RL)
OS: RD-DOS / JiffyDos replaces original Computer ROMs (C64/C128)
RTC: no (not posible)
Swap keys: yes (8/9)

You can't swap Firmware (that's what the ROM is) between totally different hardware.

There have been boxes to connect several CBM to one drive (or one printer).

Herdware / Re: RAMLink battery type?

No power no data  :'(

But there are tools avaliable to save and store the configuration on disk.
You may use the handy tool from Sunny: http://www.andiboehm.de/english/hobbies/c64engrlmgr.html

(I don't need this because I only use 3 partitions (1541, native, native) and that configuration is reinstalled manually within seconds)

... If the constant is an integer assign it to an integer variable (e.g.,A%=10), which only consumes two bytes and can be processed many timesfaster than a floating point variable. ...

Sorry my dear dino, but that is not true (unfortunately).
The use of variables like A% needs the same cbm memory space then a real value (7 bytes).
If you want to save memory space you have to use fields like A%(x). Only the integer values in fields uses 2 bytes of memory to store the value (and 5 bytes overhead for the simple field).
And if I remember well, then the math. routines are working with real values. Therefore integer variables are slower than real variables because the program have to to reformat the values from integer to real (and vice versa) and have also to check for overflows.

Only if you use a compiler all things changes and integers will be very fast.

128 programmers / Re: Swapping drive numbers
August 03, 2010, 04:06 AM
You have to check the drive change command. U1541 and IEC2ATA (NLQ-Version) should work correctly. Most other emulation drives might fail.

Regards WTE

PS: U0>[devicenumber] works on CMD-Hardware and on the IEC2ATA (NLQ-Version). You should try it also on the IEC2SD.
