Ack!  I hope the A4000 motherboard was not too damaged by that leaky battery.

It LOOKS ok, no corrosion damage, just green all over the pins, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Just an FYI, in Edmonton CUE is dead (actually for years now) as far as I know (what I have been told form AMICUE). Most of the remaining members have come over to AMICUE, I did e-mail the CUE group on that page about a year or 2 back and got no response.

O.K., if you don't want to repair it, then it's time to get another one, like maybe one from Bob Kadylo's massive collection right there in Edmonton.  You can contact Bob through Bruce Thomas of CUE.

Bob (believe it or not) Hosts our AMICUE meetings, at the school he works at. I am waiting for him to retire at the end of the school year so he can get at his "stuff". He has promised me a PET cable for the PET floppy drive also, so we will see. The funny thing is getting a VIC chip should be a simple task, but it is way cheaper to get a whole new unit. The people who sell "parts" usually want 3- 10 X more for just a chip, then the people selling whole boxed VICS and C64s.
The VIC stuff is on hold for now, over the weekend I got in a big Amiga Haul with an A4000 in it (pics on Amibay). The battery has leaked, so I am going to be busy for a while cleaning that mess up.

What type of power supply does it use?  Is it the two-prong p.s., or is it the round DIN connection?

Thanks Chuck,
This was a "Naked boot" with no cart or anything plugged in (Joystick, Tape drive, Floppy etc). I have put an add up on Kijjii , but so far no responses. I guess I will have to hunt down e-bay again, as I don't expect much luck on Amibay for here in Canada.

VIC 20 / Sad sunday- My Vic is dead
February 21, 2011, 03:04 AM
Hi, all, I know I have not been around all that much (it sucks not having internet!)
I though today was a perfect day to play with the VIC 20 for the first time, so I got out the 1702 monitor and hooked up the old beast, for I just got a in few carts for it and found out , its dead!
It appears the VIC chip has given up the ghost for all I get is garbage on the screen. I though I would let it "warm up" but it seems just to have worsen the out put. I thought I had a spare kicking around, but I can't seem to locate one now.
Oh well, anyone have a spare VIC chip or unit they want to get rid of  ;D
All is not shot though, I am digging around now for a C64 power supply, I have 2 C64-C's to test out.

Well, it's warmed up! We are hovering around Zero today, but with the near record (of 50 CM) of snow JUST since new years, now the real fun begins with the thaw. People are scrambling, to get the snow off the roofs, as once this soup warms up, it becomes HEAVY! Last year, we had a bunch of roof cave in's during the thaw, and no where near as much snow. Also, when snow like this begins to thaw, it becomes like loose sand to walk on, and the ice underneath makes it very slippery.
Such is the joy of living in Alberta, the sad part is, it is not over until about March, this is just a temporary reprieve and then its back to sub-arctic conditions.

BTW, in an off topic- I have broke down and got a twitter account under GlenVDB1, so you can follow my exploits there also.

It's like "bring on the Tauntauns" lets re-name it Hoth!
Sorry for the blurry iphone photo, I was actually surprised that it took such good pictures at that temperature!
Last night, it was down to minus 40 with the wind chill, I was in 3 layers of clothing with a good winter jacket and I still was freezing by the time I got home! I am not one to normally gripe about the weather, but at that temperature, winter is not fun.
Sad related story is that one guy here decided he would help out his neighbors (who were seniors) by plowing their sidewalks with his ATV. The Cops came by and ticketed him for riding his ATV in the city. When he explained what he was doing, they arrested him and charged him with resisting arrest.

General chat / Winter..Got to hate it
January 15, 2011, 02:40 AM
So, it's the deep heart of winter here in Canada. The past week, we sit at minus -20 C weather, snowing every day! last weekend we got a dump of 29 cm and today we are expecting another 17 cm or so.
I walk to and from work every night. It's only 4 blocks, but the last 2 nights it has been below -30 with the wind chill.
I snapped a few pictures of the snow plow fleet that has been running 24/7 for the last few weeks trying to keep the roads clear. yes those are piles of snow from when the bobcat cleared our parking lot.
This is actually pretty typical for this time of year temperature wise, but it seems we have had a bunch more snow than usual.
and people wonder why I want to move to California.

PET hardware / Re: Teacher's PET
August 24, 2010, 07:52 AM
Please excuse me, it could be just a figment of my crazy memory, but I seem to recall "networking" type boxes from CBM that could connect all the PETS in the Classroom up to the Teacher's machine (Not sure how or what protocol etc)because it was only the Teacher's machine that had a floppy drive or a printer hooked too it.
I probably am totaly out to lunch on this though, but I could swear I did see something like that at one time..

Nice, but is there any real difference between the TP and a regular 2001, other than the obvious label change?, Did it have ports to connect to other pets or such?

Heh, I just want to find the black keyboard and black floppy drive that goes for the Amiga CDTV I bought at CommVEx.  :)

Hee, Hee,
The first A500 that I got came with a "Black" external floppy drive ;D . After I researched why it was black, I found out that it was made for the CDTV, no keyboard though

General chat / Got a new toy last week
July 27, 2010, 03:41 AM
I got a new toy last weekend and have been on it all this weekend. It aint no 128D, but it will keep me busy for now.. It is just stock, but the interesting thing is that it has the original 2.xx Roms and softkicks into 3.1( I know that might not be exciting to the older users, but to me it is pretty darn impressive) there are more pictures and such on my blog site.
The darn thing weighs a TON!
This weekend, I ditched the 1084S monitor and proceded to use a KVM switch to share the VGA monitor with my A1200, I will be networking the 2 together also and using the T as a server.
One Holy Grail found 2 too go (a 128D and an A4000T)

in sad Altair news, I just found out that Ed Roberts past away last month..he was only 68. I was shocked that this was not all over the news sites, but then again, it's only us computer geeks that realy know who Ed was, and how important his role is/ was in computer history. :'(

I had 2 of them at one time, decked out with the matching monitor. The problem was (as always) lack of proper RAM for the unit and the "PLUS" cards were (then) outrageously expensive and hard to find.250K was just not enough to do anything but run DOS or Tandy's DeskMate software. Tandy had a nice unit, but it was really too crippled to do anything real good with it.
Now, take that same chassis and you have a real nice attractive all in one unit as long as you can get the keyboard (or update it) to work.

BTW, I always figured the C128 would have looked like the EX (at the bottom), if CBM would have shoved the Floppy on the side (kind of ugly IMHO).

I see ;D
I must change the color scheme as I can barely see the links.
I still say one of the nicest designs was the Tandy 1000 HX for "all in ones" One of these days, I will get around to modding one with a modern PC inside and replace the floppy drives with a DVD Burrner
Pictures are HERE

Because it was totally the integrated keyboard housing that made the Commodore special; this was a trait which no other computer of the era had, and it did far more to set the machine apart than the powerful yet easy-to-understand sound and video hardware, comprehensive, well-written documentation, or affordable price tag. No question about it. Designing another generic Intel PC and putting it in a keyboard housing is absolutely in keeping with the spirit of the original.
Wow, are you forgetting about all the other 8 bit computers? They all were integrated in the keyboard. The Apple 2,3. The TRS 80, (Model 1, Color Computer 1,2,3), the Tandy 1000, HX,TX, and a few others. The Timex Sinclair, the TI 99/4A etc. Commodore was not even the first to put it all in the keyboard, look at the SOL, the Exidy Sorcerer, etc.
The TRS 80 Color Computer had an easier basic, and the manuals were excellently written for young people also.8 year olds could easily understand them.
Unless you are being sarcastic, I am not sure of your point.

Thats exactly what it is, and they have actually been around for a few years. They are called the "zero footprint PC" and you could get them here.
Someone just slapped a Commodore badge on it and called it a day. Not really innovative, or anything.

Yeh, there is a thread on either amibay, or amiga.org.
they wer saying there it is a fake (site) if you call the phone number you get a furniture store or something like that. I am not sure who would go to all that trouble to set up a fake site, but i sure causes a bunch of buzz.
The biggest problem with that monstrosity is the touchpad (god I HATE touchpads, after 20 years, you would think that they would have come up with something better)
I know if I was going to design a "Commodore" branded PC, I would make sure that the keyboard was already mapped for stuff like VICE (ie: the keyboard had the PETISCI symbols and such- useless, i know in windows, but it would be ready for and emulation machine.).
