Gaming / Akalabeth: World of Doom
Last post by RobertB - April 07, 2025, 03:47 PM
A few years ago the C128 game, Akalabeth: World of Doom was released at

https://github.com/FoxCunning/akalabeth128

On March 8, 2025, Akalabeth C128 was released at

https://csdb.dk/release/?id=250815

This newer version seems to have different programmer(s).

Are the games the same?

128 programmers / RetroLoader and Start Apps
Last post by RobertB - April 07, 2025, 03:19 PM
A few years ago RetroLoader and Start Apps, two items for the C128, were developed.  Work has continued in improving them.  RetroLoader is now at v0.6.11, and Start Apps is at v0.7.

RetroLoader is a "a browser for the Commodore 128 [that is also] capable of loading and running Commodore 64 programs directly from 128 mode."  Start Apps is "a 32K cartridge for Commodore 128 that can contain a set of programs for C64 and C128 modes."

General chat / Re: Commodore/Amiga at LA Make...
Last post by RobertB - April 06, 2025, 06:27 PM
Just a reminder that Commodore and Amiga will be at the LA Maker Faire 2025 next Saturday!  https://losangeles.makerfaire.com/

I plan to be exhibiting an Ultimate 64, an Amiga 3000, an AmigaOne A1222+, and an Atari 800XL (yeah, our exhibit is titled Classic Los Angeles Computers, not just Commodore and Amiga).  SCCAN member Jerold plans on concentrating on music, bringing in his C64 with Incredible Musical Keyboard and Cynthcart, and other machines like an NES and/or Sega on which you can play music.

Gotta bring some back-up machines just in case,

I built the truck leasing system I designed around a gaggle of DCRs multiplexed to a Xetec Lt. Kernal, the latter which had an enormous 80 MB of storage (two 40 MB disks).  There was also a C-64 that acted as a print spooler.

I was nowhere near a dealer/repair center when my flat C128 and 1571 failed, and I was desperate to finish grades on time (which I was doing on the C128 system).  So, that's why I mail-ordered a C128DCR from Nevada.  The machine came in time for me to finish the grades.
