Apparently, "the word" got out to this guy...  He's removed the
reference to a battery in the item description:

Say, didn't someone here buy a 1581 for AUS $200 a little while ago? Lance, was that you? You could be turning these things around for a huge profit. You should contact the buyer on that auction and see if he needs some more. :)

While you don't see many 1581 drives pop up on eBay in Oz, $351 is just insane.

I'd rather buy a drive kit without the U.S. power supply for CAD $34.95 = AUS $38.40

Have it shipped to Australia for $20 to $30, then add a floppy drive mech from an old Amiga 500 and a 1541-II power supply (both easy to find).

Wow. Looks like a good time to be dealing in Commodore equipment!

I hate when stuff like that happens, though, because if it happens a few times that an item sells for more than it should, it often drives up the prices on other auctions.

Looks like the same eBayer dbetterton80 splashing out his cash on all of these auctions...

I remember buying a mint 1084S monitor boxed with manuals and cables for under $30 a year or so ago...

Well, looks like he finally worked things out with the guy selling info on how to WORK FROM HOME-WEB BASED - RECEIVE MONEY IN 24hrs, so he must've come into some serious cash since then and no longer worries about trivial matters like getting a good buy. :)

I'd concur - but after having a quick trawl through ebay I'm not seeing this as being a general trend. Maybe (considering it is the same buyer) it's someone "new" to the scene who wants to relive his past & isn't aware of what would be a realistic price. That said, someone had to bid against him though........
