Guys,

I'll throw this out for public discussion as this is your site as much as it's mine.

I've mentioned in the past that I'd like to do for the PET/CBM II machines what we've done here for the 128 - I think we've managed a pretty good job in a fairly short period of time of reviving & rehabilitating the 128. (Just browse some of the topics that have led to new things being done/found out).

Now, I can set up another domain or I can piggy-back onto this one & have a separate group of sub-forums (fora ? (I've never been good at Scrabble & my partner accuses me of making up words)).

I should point out that I have no intention of supporting the 264 series (there are European forums already), the VIC20 (Denial is already doing an excellent job), the C65 (is there a market anyway for dedicated forums ?) or the C64 (no comment.....)

Your thoughts ?

I basically only share an interest with the PET line as the grandaddy to the other, more interesting CBM products.  I would personally prefer to see it get the same type of seperate forums, domain/site as the 128 is currently enjoying.  I think it would be a mistake to mix them into this forum.

I agree Lance, this forum has done a lot to get people thinking about the C128 :-)
So there's a good chance expanding to cover other lines will do the same .. so my vote is "go for it".

Only thing I can think of is that the other lines are even harder to get hold of than the C128!  I know I've never seen any of them ... ever! :-(   So if anyone has one to give me drop me a message :-)

About the option of C64 forums ... I think that is a good idea as well, there are far more 64'ers about, and if you can ignore the freaky ones that, there is a lot of info that is relevant bottled up waiting to be shared, plus projects that are for 64 translate most times to things that can be done on other systems as well .. share and share alike.

I've longed for a PET forum. I assumed that if there were interest there would be a forum out there but perhaps it's a case of 'build it and they will come'. I know I'll be there. The PET was my first computer and it remains my favorite Commodore ever.

I wasn't actually even thinking about another C64 forum! There's already enuf! (IMHO).

PET's are relatively easy to get here in Oz..... mostly 2001's

That's pretty much what happened with this forum. I was surprised that there were NO 128 forums anywhere.

I remember. :)

The PET is the only mainstream Commodore computer without a community of some sort. I can understand and accept that there isn't a community for the B-series (that I know of) because almost nobody used them and there isn't an emulator (again, AFAIK). The PET though was a first computer for a lot of us, either at home or at school. Here in Ontario (Canada) they were in almost every school so anyone between 30 and 40 probably used one. The SuperPET is also a local creation having been designed in conjunction with the University of Waterloo.

Enough rambling. PET site/forums - thumbs up!

Have begun building the forums for the new site, I've deliberately kept the "look' the same as the Commodore 128 Alive! companion site.

Note that the userbase is NOT shared - I considered doing this but there may be a  good reason why you might want to use a different username & password on each site. This does mean that if you swap between forums you'll have to re-login (sorry).

The forum is "bare bones" at the moment, I'll be doing a  large chunk of work to install the same add-ons as the C128 site. However, the forum is live so feel free to post.

Until I've built the site at www.commodorepet.org I won't do a vast amount of advertising for these forums - so they'll either be discovered via the other site or simply by word of mouth for the time being.

Forums are at http://landover.no-ip.com/pet/

Enjoy!

cheers,

Lance

Excellent. I'm going to go register now. Amusingly, I'm currently listed as a "PET user" here at 128 Alive!. :)

Sorry to follow-up my own post but...

When you said we would have to re-login, did you mean everytime? I noticed that when I logged in PET Alive! I got logged out here and vice versa. I had at first assumed you meant I would have to login once and then it would give me a cookie and that would be that. If we have to login to both sites everytime, well, that's going to get really old and it will hurt participation. Is there no way around this? Would a shard userbase be that bad? If a person really needed to have different logins on each site they could register twice, no?

What I should do (& will) is change the cookie directory for each forum (which should fix the issue).

That fixed it alright. Cancel my complaint and mark me down in the chuffed category.
