Mmmm.... SPAM!

Cheesy Country Spam Puff Recipe

Ready in: 30-60 minutes
Serves/Makes:   6
   
Ingredients:

6 slices White bread; torn in small pieces
1 1/4 cup Milk
3 Eggs
1 tablespoon Spicy mustard
1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Paprika
1 can (12 oz size) Spam luncheon meat, cubed
2 cups Shredded Cheddar cheese; divided
1/2 cup Chopped onion
1/2 cup Shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Directions:

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a large mixing bowl, combine bread, milk, eggs, mustard, garlic powder and paprika. With electric mixer, beat at medium speed 1 minute or until smooth. Stir in Spam, 1 cup cheddar cheese, and onion. Pour into a greased 12- by 8-inch baking dish. Bake 25 minutes. Top with remaining cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese. Bake 5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Have you actually tried this SPAM recipe?  it sounds aweful.

Here's something you might find interesting.  One day I was going to make some "Chicken Helper" but didn't have any chicken.  I decided to try a can of Turkey SPAM instead.  I sliced it into little cubes, of course.  The result?  Well, it wasn't as good as the chicken would have been, but my daughter and I ate it and put the rest of it away and ate leftovers again later.

Actually I used to like Spam on toast a loooooong time back, maybe time to by a tin & see if I still do :tillfreds:

Doesn't it? When checking the Spam folder on Gmail, links to SPAM recipes such as these appear. I click them from time to time to see if something sounds worth an experiment, but most are pretty bad like this one. When I was a kid, we did "Hawaiian-style" SPAM a lot -- basically SPAM with pineapple and some sort of sauce. It wasn't terrible.

One of these days I'll have to try Turkey SPAM. Honestly, I haven't had SPAM since before they decided to make different kinds, so I've been meaning to give it another go if I can find a decent recipe. Incorporating it into some sort of Helper sounds promising. :) I don't recall SPAM being bad, definitely not terrible, in fact it may have been sort of good, but we just had it so often when I was a kid that I stopped eating it when I had the choice.

That just gave me a nightmare memory. My mum used to make this concoction out of sausages, some sort of excruciatingly thick sweet sauce & a tin of pineapples. It was bloody awful, she used to think all us kids liked it.......

Spam is useful for making grilled meat sandwiches. Same procedure as grilled cheese only with canned meat. I was amazed how good they were the first time I tried them.
Call me Golan; my parents did.
