There are 2 current offers of c128's on martkplaats.nl. It´s a netherlands oriented ebay like site.

Nice site :)

Can you translate a few words?

Gezien - Times watched?
T.e.a.b
N.o.t.k
Bieden - No bids? Or does it mean that that item is actually an auction and that the other, with a price, are like "buy it now" on ebay?

T.e.a.b. = Tegen elk aannemelijk bod = At any fair offer
Bieden = Auction
Gereserveerd = Reserved
N.o.t.k. = Price Negotiable

If a price is indicated that is the price the asking price. You can still get outbidden, I think.

Bah. If anyone wants a 1581 kit, let me know and I'll take care of you. I've got a bunch of them sat around doing nothing. If you want a complete, working 1581, that's no problem either.

Would those work at 50Hz/220V net power? Otherwise I'd like one.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: You Australians are an odd lot.

What I wanna know is how you northerners cope with walking around upside down all the time ?

Reading your forum is a problem too. Can you add some code to turn it upright?

General chat / Re: So, why did the C128 fail ?
April 26, 2008, 06:12 PM
The C-128 failed because commodore didn't want to produce something that competed with the Amiga. So instead of making the best machine they could they produced a compromize.

Imagine a 16-bit C128 with a adapted GEOS. What do you get? An Atari ST. The Atari St sold millions despite the Amiga.

Commodore didn't have the balls to do this. Was this the reason Tramiel left commodore?

Buying Amiga was a mistake. It didn't use any commodore technology (commodore owned the 65XX processor producer) and prevented real further development of their own line of stuff.

no dice so far with the manual head cleaning approach.  I have a feelning I made it worse.

Is there a way to get more info on the error the disk is reporting?

BDD, So you don't recommend just dousing the whole works with alcohol and setting it on fire? Wouldn't that permanently remove any contaminants? :)

There'd still be contaminants.  If drastic measures are required, may I suggest explosives?  They're much more dramatic.

I expected a little more empathy here.

Herdware / Borked my Floppy C128D
April 12, 2008, 02:38 AM
I got a c128D a few months back and the floppy was functioning OK. However the other day I put a very old floppy in it, and the drive started skwieking.

Now I can't read any floppy any more, and the drive is making banging noises all the time.

What to do? I thought maybe some head cleaning or something might help.

You guys have been Rickrolled

Hmm... I read the Wikipedia article, and I still don't get it...  but then, I'm a fan of 80's music...  maybe it would be funnier if I was a young kid and I thought 80's music sucked.  Whatever...

The step up from the C64 seemed too small for me. Being a programming and gaming type.

Besides, Amiga's and Atari ST's and PC's were on the horizon.

If it had been 16 bit with extra sound and expanded resolution I would have gone for it though.

Welcome to the forums / New user on C128
March 08, 2008, 04:50 AM
Hi people,

I had lent my C64 to my nephew in the early 90's or something, when I went of to study. He returned it a few months ago, but the thing didn't work anymore. O damn. I still have these C64 disks around with unfinished projects etc...

I decided the best thing to do was upgrade and I got me a C128D on ebay, which I'm going to pick up tomorrow.

So if you could please fill me in on the stuff that's been going on C64/C128 since early 90's, I'd be much obliged.

greetings,
Lucas
